About Joy

I’m Dr Joy Humphreys.

I help leaders and professionals foster clarity, trust, and strong relationships within complex systems.

A Reflective Approach to Change.

Lasting change begins with understanding. My work is guided by curiosity and care. I take time to listen and help people see the connections beneath challenges so that new perspectives can emerge. In a world that moves quickly, I create confidential and reflective spaces where leaders can pause, think deeply, and make sense of what is happening around them. These moments of reflection often become the starting point for genuine transformation, renewed energy, and better decisions.

Experience and Practice

I’m an executive coach, governance consultant, and change counsellor with a a Doctorate in Organisation (Human Systems and Psychodynamics). My career began in healthcare. Those early years taught me the importance of empathy, ethical clarity, and the human side of systems. Over the past twenty years, I have worked across health, community, and government settings as an organisational consultant.

I am particularly interested in helping people strengthen the relationships and systems that sustain their work. Much of what I do centres on restoring trust and supporting meaningful transition through one-to-one executive counselling, coaching, and reflective practice.

I am an accredited Balint Group Leader and have facilitated Balint groups internationally, both online and in person. These groups provide professionals with a space to explore the relational and emotional dimensions of their work, leading to insight, resilience, and more compassionate practice.

While I have extensive experience in facilitation, my focus now lies in working closely with individuals and small groups where the work can be more personal, reflective, and deeply grounded in experience.

In these settings, participants bring workplace cases about clients, colleagues, teams, or systems and together, the group reflects on the dynamics at play. Through guided dialogue and curiosity, new insights emerge: what might be happening in the experience of the person presenting, and what might be happening for “the other,” whether that’s a patient, client, or organisation.

Leadership and Credentials

I currently serve as Chair of Great Ocean Road Health and as a Non-Executive Director at Better Place Australia. I combine psychodynamic understanding with governance experience to help leaders and boards create cultures of trust and respect.
